North Italian Style
During the same period greater period as
that of the Early Gothic Style's blossoming (1820-1860), another technique
with reference to Classical architecture came to the fore. This was the
North Italian Mode, and it, along with the similar Romano--Tuscan mode,
were revivals of Renaissance styles. Here the windows of buildings are arched,
and the walls are rarely left unbroken, creating much contrast of light
and dark areas. Different orders may be placed on the same façade,
with a different order for each level of the building.
