The Milford granite used in much of the Boston Public Library is a very common building material in neoclassical architecture. It resembles the marble used often in classical architecture. The Parthenon is made entirely of marble. The inner courtyard contains marble columns and mostly granite walls. The large inner stairway, however, is mostly marble, adding texture and pattern to elaborate Corinthian styles.
