The interior of the Boston Public Library is comprised of a variety of classical architectural styles. The inner courtyard contains simple Roman Doric columns and rosette ornaments. Along the inner stairway, however, there are elaborate Roman Corinthian columns with intricate leaf designs that are only matched by the elaborate floral designs along the ceiling. Very prevalent in this structure is the rosette flower decoration, which is found in ceiling tiles, in the courtyard, and even around the facade.
The Greek Doric architecture of the Parthenon is different from the Roman Doric of the BPL in that the columns in the BPL have bases, slightly more elaborate capitals, and are fluted. The Doric and Corinthian columns in the BPL contrast considerably, representing one of the simplest orders and one of the most elaborate.
