Raphael Delorme, Untitled (Woman and Steamship), 1928
Marnie, 1964
The scene from the outside of Marnie’s mother’s home during the climax of Marnie, which is shown above seems to be a replication of Raphael Delorme’s Untitled work shown above. The perspective and large white ship in the background are common to both images. Even the blonde hair of the nude character in Delorme’s painting echoes Tippi Hedren’s blonde hair. Just as Rene Magritte’s painting Deep Waters provides a model for Tippi Hedren in The Birds, so does the nude blonde character in Delorme’s work. The fact that this woman is carrying two boxes refers to Marnie’s habit of thievery.
