Painted in about 1548, the anti-papal Allegory of the Succession of Edward VI depicts Henry VIII on his death-bed gesturing to his successor, the boy king Edward VI. In the foreground is the defeated Pope Clement VII with the words "All Fleshe if Grasse" imprinted upon his robe. To the right of Edward VI are his Regency Councillors, with the Duke of Somerset at the king's immediate left hand. The view from the window depicts soldiers committing acts of iconoclasm.
