Both structures have similar exterior designs, with several rows of arches and rectangular windows near the top. The Colosseum, however, has decorative engaged columns and pilaster in many of the spaces between arches. These decorations represent the major Roman orders: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Harvard Stadium's exterior consists of very simple design with a simple entablature and no more than small protrusions at the base of each row of arches. At first glance, the exterior of these to structures looks quite similar, but the elaborate ornaments and columns of the Colosseum are in great contrast with the simple Roman Tuscan-like design of Harvard Stadium.
