Pledge Allegiance

Thinking about the actions taken by the US to round up and imprison the Japanese-Americans on the west coast while looking at this picture makes any American cringe. When many Americans with Japanese heritage were patriotic and believed in their country, the US turned its back on them. Instead of accepting help from these people and showing faith in its citizens, it took the easy and ignorant approach. Fear for national security is not an excuse for rounding up US citizens and placing them in camps. The image above inspires these kinds of embarassing feelings because it shows how devoted and honest the Japanese-Americans were. The US committed a horrible and grave personal rights violation by imprisoning these people.

The picture above is so powerful because it doesn't mention any of these facts, and just shows one patriotic young girl. The picture leaves it to the viewer to become angry with the US for its actions against people who were trying to support their country.
