This website is a presentation of three types of ceramics of the three periods in prehistoric Japan: Jomon, Yayoi, and Kofun. Its goal is to instruct the users about the pottery's history, and also to analyze the pottery. It also compares the different types of pottery with each other. For example, most Jomon pottery is colorful, and elaborately decorated with a rope-like pattern. On the other hand, Yayoi pottery is less decorated, lacking luster and appearing more like the original ingredients that make up the vessels. The user himself/herself will be able to think up of their own ideas by viewing and studying the pictures that will be posted.
Since this website covers a visual, artistic subject, there is a collection of examples of ancient Japanese pottery that prominently feature the characteristics of the style of its respective period. |
