Muckraking at the turn of the 20th Century
Using their talents in literature or photography, individuals
like Jacob Riis and Upton Sinclair strove to change the plight
of the poverty strikken, lower working class. Descriptions and
images of their miserable existences helped urge the United
States government towards the creation of the Federal Food and
Drug Administration and many worker's rights statutes.
