Cave Art

Lascaux Caves

Cave art continued throughout the evolution of humans. Hundreds of thousands of years after the hominids created the artwork shown above, humans were still using cave walls as a canvas. The Lascaux Caves, in France, house one of the most extensive collections. The paintings in these caves are believed to have been created between fifteen and twenty thousand years ago. Note the artistic development that can be seen by comparing the two images. The works in the Lascaux Caves are known particularly for their depiction of motion and energy – elements that are certainly captured in modern graffiti.
