The wall between Israel and Palestine is a symbol for a vast division that transcends ethnicity, politics, and religion. It is also a physical barrier with a single purpose; to keep people out. For this reason, it has become known to some as the "Apartheid Wall".

Banksy saw an opportunity for political statement and to create something beautiful. The following is an exchange that took place between Banksy and an old Palestinian man.

Old man: You paint the wall, you make it look beautiful.

Banksy: Thanks

Old man: We don't want it to be beautiful, we hate this wall. Go home.
